Technology Glossary

Atomic Clock
Atomic radio-controlled clock and calendar set automatically! Atomic timepieces guarantee accuracy by automatically synchronizing each day by radio signal to the official United States atomic clock operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado. This precision is the same time standard demanded by NASA, the military, TV and radio stations. In the event of a power failure, Atomic timepieces provide an accurate time standard for resetting your other clocks. Using the same technology NASA employs to tell time, Atomic clocks wirelessly synchronize with the National Institute of Standards and Technology's atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. In addition to daily confirming the time, these clocks automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time and run up to two years on a single AA battery Atomic Clock maintenance free and perfect time precision clock that synchronizes its exact time by radio control from (NIST) in Fort Collins, Colorado

Barometric Pressure
The pressure of the atmosphere usually expressed in terms of the height of a column of mercury. The hPa (Hectopascal) scale is used when displaying pressure.

Comfort Zone
When the air temperature, humidity and air movement are within the specified range often referred to as the "comfort zone". Indoor humidity levels should be between 30 to 50 percent with the ideal level being about 45 percent.

Daylight Saving Time (DST)
Time during which clocks are set one hour or more ahead of standard time to provide more daylight at the end of the working day during late spring, summer, and early fall. Atomic Clocks and Intell-itime clocks automatically adjust for DST.

Dew Point
The temperature at which air becomes saturated and produces dew.

14 Day Learning Mode
Acu-rite weather stations have a patented ''fourteen day learning mode'' calibration process. During this learning mode the weather station will make altitude calculations that may affect the accuracy of the forecast. Once the 14 day learning mode process is complete, the learning mode icon will disappear and the weather forecast should be ready for superior operation.

Future Forecast
The future forecast feature automatically gives you the predicted weather forecast icon for the next 12 to 24 hours based on an advanced algorithm that analyzes barometric pressure changes and temperature. This weather forecaster will provide the most accurate forecast that a single station instrument can provide.

Intelli-time
Clocks with Intelli-Time® technology automatically display the correct time from the moment you plug them in or install the batteries. In addition, they automatically springing forward and falling back for Daylight Savings Time. They will continue to display the correct time even after power outages. So your digital clock will never flash 12:00 again!

Min/Max
Min Max values show the minimum or maximum reading for the past 24 hours. This can apply to temperature, humidity, rainfall, etc.

Radio Controlled Clock (RCC Clock)
A radio clock is a clock that is synchronized by a time code bit stream transmitted by a radio transmitter connected to a time standard such as an atomic clock.

Radio Frequency (RF)
The frequency of the waves transmitted by a specific radio station. A frequency in the range within which radio waves may be transmitted, from about 3 kilohertz to about 300,000 megahertz.. Out standard RF is 433mhz. This signal allows for strong wall penetrating signals to transmit data from the outside sensor to the inside main unit. See diagram

Relative Humidity
Is a term used to describe the ratio of the amount of water vapor in the air at a specific temperature to the maximum amount that the air could hold at that temperature, expressed as a percentage.

Self Calibrating Weather Forecaster
Acu-rite weather units with the self calibrating weather forecaster include a patent pending 14 day learning mode calibration process the forecasts the future weather.

Set and Forget
Clocks with Set & Forget ® technology automatically adjusts for day light savings time twice a year.

Trend Indicator
Trend arrows indicate if the weather feature is trending up or down. Trend indicators are used for temperate, and pressure humidity.

Wind Speed
The most current wind speed reading, this value is updated every 18 seconds.

Wind Peak
The highest wind speed reading recorded in the last hour.

Wind Average
The combined averaged wind speed readings from the last 2 minutes.
